Why Attend?
AI is everywhere in education right now, and most of the advice is either hype or fear. What is missing is exactly what Dr. Merry brings: guidance from someone who spent 11 years teaching math to students with disabilities and now studies inclusive technology for a living.
Math is one of the hardest areas to differentiate. Students on your caseload may span several grade levels of math skills in a single class period, and building scaffolded practice, worked examples, visual supports, and accessible materials for each of them takes hours you do not have. This session is about using AI tools to do that work faster and better, without sacrificing accessibility or instructional quality.
Dr. Merry will ground the session in real classroom use, not abstractions. You will see tools in action and leave with specific ways to apply them to your own students' IEP goals, accommodations, and math instruction this school year.
In this session, participants will learn:
- Which AI tools are genuinely useful for math instruction in special education settings, and which are not worth your time
- How to generate differentiated math practice, worked examples, and visual supports matched to individual student skill levels
- How to use AI to make math materials accessible, drawing on Dr. Merry's work in 508 compliance and digital accessibility at OSEP
- How AI can support students directly, including scaffolded problem solving and supports for twice-exceptional learners
- Where the guardrails are: accuracy, student data privacy, and keeping the teacher, not the tool, in charge of instruction
- How to start small this week with one or two tools instead of an overwhelming list
All registrants will have access to the recording and attendees will receive a certificate of attendance for professional development.
