NASET ACT 48 Approval - State-by-State Guide

Announcement

On February 3, 2026, NASET became an Act 48 approved professional development provider (AUN# 300003228). This means our certification and course content counts towards the hours of Pennsylvania educators per official Pennsylvania Department of Education guidelines as long as it was completed on or after February 3, 2026.

As NASET continues to pursue specific state approvals, we encourage you to review your state, district, and school professional development policies to see how NASET courses can provide you with the required hours. Each of our board certifications includes a detailed breakdown of the module and unit lessons to assist in your local approval process.

How Our Act 48 Approval Supports You in Other States

While Pennsylvania's approval is specific to the Commonwealth, many states allow out-of-state approved hours to count toward renewal. Below is how NASET's new status can be used across the 49 other states. We recommend you refer to your state and district requirements to confirm the details below:

Alabama

Educators can submit NASET's Act 48-approved certificate to their local school system for approval as part of their Professional Learning Plan. Alabama does not require state-level approval, so your district has full authority to accept NASET certifications. Contact your district's professional development coordinator with our ACT 48 approval number (AUN# 300003228) and detailed course syllabi. Hours Required: 60-100 hours per renewal cycle (varies by district).

Alaska

Credits can be used for renewal if they are relevant to your endorsement area; our PA-vetted syllabus serves as "proof of quality" for district review. Submit a professional development approval request to your district superintendent or professional development committee. Include NASET's ACT 48 approval number (AUN# 300003228), course syllabi, and learning objectives. Reference Alaska's requirement for "high-quality professional development aligned with student achievement." Hours Required: Varies by district contract.

Arizona

NASET content fits under "Continuing Education" units; educators can submit certificates of completion to the Arizona Department of Education for the 120-hour requirement. Arizona does not require state approval for professional development providers. Consider having your district pre-approve NASET courses, or pursue our university-partnership option for formal credit conversion. Hours Required: 180 hours every 6 years for Professional/Standard teaching certificate renewal.

Arkansas

Professional development hours from an out-of-state approved provider are generally accepted when they align with the educator's professional growth plan. NASET is currently pursuing Arkansas state approval through PDSaMS. Check with your district professional development coordinator about accepting NASET courses for local PD credit. Contact us to be notified when NASET receives Arkansas approval (estimated timeline: Q1 2025). Hours Required: Varies by employing district.

Professional development is handled at the local district level. Our PA Act 48 Provider Number provides the rigorous vetting school boards look for.
